Newsletter from our Wardens 28th February 2024
Dear Church
We have a few things to keep you up to date about.
This Sunday March 3rd - there are 2 services as usual 9am St Johns and 10.30am at the Worship Centre. Bishop Steve will be with us and preaching at both services
Following the 10.30 service there will be a Farewell to Revs Don and Lynda Moses ( approx 11.45am start) followed by a SHARED LUNCH. We will have a number of extra visitors attending - clergy and members of Don & Lynda’s family. Please keep this in mind as you plan what food you can bring to share. As always we welcome food that is cut and ready to serve - happy to reheat items but not to cook frozen food.
The planned work by TDC to create a new water pipeline for Wakefield will start on Monday 4th March. This work involves putting a new trench from the storage tanks at the top of the cemetery through the cemetery to intersect with the pipeline at the road. A lot of preparation has already been done including negotiations with the Diocesan Trust Board (the legal owners of the land) and consultation with an archeologist. The archeologist will be present during the ground work through the cemetery and there is a planned process to follow if any remains are disturbed. We think this is unlikely but we are prepared if it eventuates. You will probably see equipment parked at the top of the cemetery while this work carries on. We have an arrangement with the contractor to keep the parking area next to St Johns clear and to ensure access is unimpeded. If you have any problems with accessing St Johns especially on a Sunday please contact Jenny immediately 0274850448. There will probably be road control measures throughout this time as well.
Church AGM is set for Sunday 24th March (Palm Sunday) following the 10.30 service. Jenny is receiving and assembling reports which will be available for distribution on March 17th to allow a week for perusal. Still require reports please - finance, Monday Homegroup, Grounds, Waimea Senior care. All Vestry nomination forms must be delivered to returning officer Don Moses by 18th March. No nominations from the floor.
Easter Services - Easter Day March 31st is Don’s last service in the Parish. It is also a 5th Sunday - ONE SERVICE ONLY at the Worship Centre 10.30am. There is possibly a Good Friday Service but still to be confirmed
Food bank - another 2 boxes of food items will be distributed this week. Thank you everyone for your amazing support of this initiative and helping others in our community who are under stress and struggling. Bless you all.
Books - there are a number of free books available at the back of the Worship Centre (Thank you Don) and I’d also like to remind you that Manna Books in Nelson is going to be closing down - soon, not sure about the date
Finally - Andrea and I would like to thank you all for the amazing work you all undertake doing voluntary work to progress the gospel locally. There are times when we all feel discouraged but we value you and appreciate you so much. Let us approach this next season in our church’s life with joy, confident that our Lord has a beautiful plan that He is working out.
Jenny and Andrea
