Newsletter 12th February 2024
Hi Everyone
Pease note the below items of Parish News:
Ash Wednesday Service:
With Easter falling earlier this year so does Ash Wednesday! Ash Wednesday is this week, February 14th. We will be having our usual Ash Wednesday Service at 7pm that day. It will be a reflective service held at St. Johns on the Hill. This is a great way to mark the beginning of the season of Lent.
What IS Lent? Here is a good definition. Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve by giving alms; and we practice self-control through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully. We recall the waters of baptism in which we were also baptized into Christ's death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ.
Roster:
It's time to prepare our next roster so can all those involved please let me know if they are planning to be away over the March, April, May period. It would help if you could let me know by this Wednesday please.
